The first pair are a matched set of Mortise and Marking gauges in New guinea Rosewood. I've made about 70 or so gauges both wide and standard faced in all sorts of timbers but the best was made of Olive Bole (second picture)... it looks like marble. The third photo is a wide faced version that is made of Western Australian Sheoak with a pencil beam and a pin beam. The wide face makes using the gauge across the end grain of the timber much easier. All my marking gauges have an inlayed brass rub face.
